Q: What is a designer overlay?
Q: What are some of my options with overlays?
Q: What substrates can you apply the decorative overlay?
Q: What are some of the advantages of decorative overlays?
A: It is a thin layer of polymer modified cementation mix to create unique and custom works, often not more than about an 1/8” thick. Pictures of painted brick looks nice in pictures but not so much in person. When we created an exposed brick on your walls, for example, it will look and feel like brick only without the thickness or additional framing needed for brick.
A: There are many concepts overlays can be used in. Here are just a few ideas: backsplashes, decorative framing for wall inserts, arched doorways and windows. Anywhere you wish to have an exposed brick, stone, tile, slate, or even the rare and expensive serpentine stone (which has an iridescent green appearance). There are may configurations.
A: Our products can be applied over wood, plywood, concrete, painted or unpainted concrete, drywall, tile (ceramic or clay), brick, stucco, and other masonry surfaces.
A: It is a fix all for certain situations. Example: In a Tuscan themed room and you wish to have an arched doorway in brick, it is more cost effective and safer to add an overlay. There is no fear if the installation was done correctly worrying that a brick may someday come loose or fall. Instead, it’s all part of the wall. The greatest advantage is the shape of the substrates does not matter, be curved, arched, columned, or angular. Our overlays fit to most any shape or size.
